Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, in collaboration with Acque SpA, invites citizens to an extraordinary day dedicated to discovering the water cycle in the Pisa area. The event, which will be held on March 29th, will be led by expert Professor Rudy Rossetto from Scuola Sant'Anna and will offer a unique opportunity to explore the infrastructures that ensure the sustainable management of water resources.

This initiative is part of the celebrations for World Water Day, an event established by the United Nations to raise awareness of the crucial importance of this resource for our planet.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit three sites of particular interest, accompanied by experts who will illustrate the operation and importance of each:

  • Visit to the San Jacopo wastewater treatment plant (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM): it will be explained how wastewater is treated and purified before being reintroduced into the environment, with a view to protection and sustainability.
  • Visit to the Caldaccoli Spring (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM): one of the main water supply points in the area, to understand the water's journey from the spring to our homes.
  • Walk in the Vecchiano reclamation area (3:00 PM - 4:30 PM) We will start from the Renzo Zia spring, on the eastern edge of the Massaciuccoli Reclamation, cross the plain, reach the modern reclamation plants, and see how they work: the lake ecosystem and its fundamental importance for the territory's water cycle
